Sophie Plassard opened La Jolla Art Studio in
order to provide a foundation in the fundamentals of art, while fostering
a sense of creativity and personal expression in students. She is a graduate
of l’Ecole Supérieure des Arts Appliqués Duperré à Paris,
where her studies encompassed drawing and painting, sculpture, engraving,
and graphic arts. Her work has been exhibited in solo and group shows
in Paris and Antibes, France; California, and Florida, and is held in
private collections in Europe and the U.S.
After directing an art school
in Gainesville, Florida for five years, Sophie launched the La Jolla
Art Studio in 1994, offering classes to
children ages 5 to 17, as well as private lessons for adults. Visual
arts studies open doors that can empower a student, helping them to develop
confidence and individuality by embracing both the intuitive and the
rational. In her classes she utilizes two different organizational techniques:
though she believes that subjects such as still life, portraiture, figure
sketching, and perspective work best in groups, Sophie also encourages
students to pursue projects of their own choosing. Along the way, she
presents many options to unfold and enrich their initiatives, utilizing
decision-making as an intrinsic part of the creative process. In refining
the skills of observation, and learning how to convey ideas improvisationally,
students develop a unique and personal sense of artistic expression.
Many La Jolla Art Studio students have won regional and statewide art
competitions, and several have pursued college and professional visual
arts careers.
Limiting class size to seven students ensures that there is ample time
for individual attention. Follow your inspiration, expand your skills,
and explore your creativity at La Jolla Art Studio.
